Mission Statement

We are an interdisciplinary research group at Carnegie Mellon University. In our research, we integrate in-depth social computing and design methods to create, deploy, and evaluate innovative AI tools and services that augment human expertise, foster positive social interactions, and enhance individual, community, and societal well-being. While we recognize AI's potential benefits, we acknowledge that it is not a universal solution to all challenges. Therefore, we also explore alternative approaches—such as policy interventions, low-tech or no-tech solutions, and infrastructure improvements—to better support affected communities and mitigate potential harms associated with AI technologies.
